Buckhannon to host global band competition

Visitors from across the globe will make their way to West Virginia next summer to take part in the 2023 World Association of Marching Bands competition which will take place in Upshur County.

Cities throughout the state placed bids to hold what is called the “Superbowl of Marching Bands.” But in the end only one city could earn the privilege of hosting the global event, and the winner was Buckhannon. The world championship will run July 17-July 24, 2023.

“We are absolutely thrilled to bring this event to West Virginia and to heighten the exposure of our beautiful region and state to new audiences,” Randy Sanders, president of the WAMSB 2023 Buckhannon Host Committee, said. “This competition will give West Virginia an opportunity to shine like never before.
