Businesses receive Centurion Awards

Secretary of State Mac Warner honored Centurion Businesses of Monongalia County with the West Virginia Centurion Chamber of Commerce Award on Tuesday morning. The award recognizes active business entities that have been in continuous operation for 100 years or more.

Those honored during the ceremony at the Erickson Alumni Center include:
The Dominion Post (1864)
West Virginia University (1867)
Grand Lodge of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows of West Virginia (1879)
The Daily Athenaeum (1867)
Telluric Company (1891)
Rock Camp Oil Co. (1900)
Phi Sigma Kappa Chapter House Association (1906)
Preston County Development Company (1911)
Greer Industries, Inc. (1921)
Morgantown Area Chamber of Commerce (1921)

“It's important to emphasize that those people stood the test of time, to provide job opportunities, providing goods and services to people for over 100 years,” Warner said. “What that means is through World Wars, social upheaval of the '60s, a Great Depression, they’ve seen it all and they’ve survived.”
