Healthcare is Human: Meet the W.Va. Hospital Custodian Committed to ‘HOPE’ During a Pandemic

3/15/2021

Jamal White works in the Emergency Department of the Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg, West Virginia, where he’s served as a custodian for the past two years. From passing out trays to patients, to putting away equipment, to helping the nursing staff, Jamal does all that, regardless of whether it’s in his job description. Jamal said - “I believe in HOPE. For me that means Helping Other People Every day,” he said. That’s not always easy, especially working in a hospital during a pandemic. He admits there have been some terribly difficult moments in the E.R., but he maintains a positive outlook on life.
