Marion County, West Virginia, Parks and Rec unveils plans for revitalized community garden

FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WV News) — The Marion County Parks and Recreation Commission announced its plans to breathe new life into the Fairmont Community Garden Thursday, and local residents will be able to rent a bed for their gardening hobbies.

Although owned by the city of Fairmont, the community garden was most recently facilitated by local nonprofit Learning Options. However, MCPARC Assistant Director Rachel Mitchell explained that after the commission was approached by Fairmont State University students hoping to use a local MCPARC-owned piece of land to build a community garden, the entities worked it out for the commission to be the new main organizer of the garden.

“We decided the project was feasible and it was going to be successful once we got enough people involved,” Mitchell said.
