After becoming the sixth shooter in Mountaineer program history to shoot a perfect, 600 in air rifle, sophomore Molly McGhin of the West Virginia University rifle team has been named the WVU Student-Athlete Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments.
In a 4724-4723 win over No. 4 TCU, McGhin hit the 600 mark in air rifle to tie the WVU program and NCAA record in the relay. The Griffin, Georgia, native is the first Mountaineer since Ginny Thrasher vs. Army on Nov. 5, 2017, to tally a perfect air rifle score. McGhin also led all shooters in the match with an aggregate score of 1189, which included a smallbore tally of 589.
McGhin now leads the Mountaineers in averaged combined score (1185) and is No. 5 nationally in the category. Additionally, she also leads the squad in average smallbore (588.333) and air rifle score (596.667), while ranking No. 6 and No. 3 nationally, respectively, in each discipline.
