KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. — The town of Montgomery is right between Charleston and the New River Gorge, the nation’s newest national park, which the mayor believes provides a golden opportunity.
The state has become a playground for outdoor enthusiasts, and the Kanawha Valley area sits right at the doorstep.
“Within 15 or 30 minutes you can be on a world-class river or rock climbing,” Joel Ferris said. “There’s really solid mountain biking and the scene is growing.”
Paddleboarding on the Kanawha River, Ferris feels right at home. He believes recreation activities can breathe new life into the area.
