Wide open spaces surrounded by rugged mountain beauty and far away from light pollution, West Virginia’s state parks and forests are home to some of the best stargazing spots on the east coast. From brilliant starry night skies to catching a glimpse of the Milky Way’s galactic core, stunning night sky views await in Almost Heaven.

Watoga State Park, Calvin Price State Forest and Droop Mountain Battlefield State Park have been designated official Dark Sky Parks by the International Dark-Sky Association (IDA). These three areas are the first official International Dark Sky Park designations in the state. Watoga State Park offers Dark Sky programming and activities for all three areas. No matter which park you visit, stunning stargazing opportunities await.
