Plant the right tree in the right place now and watch the future grow

Spring is in the air and summer is on the horizon. That’s the ideal time to plant your tree seedlings in the ground.

“We need the entire spring planting season to celebrate trees and their many benefits,” said Urban Forestry Coordinator Robert Hannah, West Virginia Division of Forestry. “From early April through mid-May, we attend events to plant trees and celebrate the accomplishments of roughly 17 communities that have been recognized as Tree City USAs by the Arbor Day Foundation.”

Tree City USA is a national program that provides the framework needed for communities to plant, nurture and manage their public trees.

Why does West Virginia – the third-most heavily forested state in the nation – need to plant more trees? The reasons are as diverse as the beauty you behold, the air you breathe and the money in your pocket.
