Regional broadband project takes one step closer to proceed

As with any major project, there are many steps to take before the first portion can start. That is especially true for government-related or grant plans.
The regional broadband project that will impact seven counties including Jackson is gearing up for Phase I which is a “gig ready” grant for those counties to receive fiber optic lines installed. Jackson County will be targeted for the area from the Roane County line to Ripley along U.S. 33. This project is under the direction of the Roane County Development Authority.
For the West Virginia Development Authority to give the final authorization, a formal memorandum of understanding is required between the counties targeted and Roane County.
