Rocco Muriale reflects on 50-plus years of the family restaurant business in Marion County

After working at Muriale’s Italian Kitchen since the restaurant’s 1969 opening, Rocco Muriale has passed on the ownership of the legendary Marion County eatery, and he’s reflecting on more than 50 years in the family business.
Muriale was only 18 years old when his family opened the modest, 32-seat restaurant on June 3, 1969, and from the beginning, he had a place in the family business.

“It was started by my parents, my uncle and aunt,” Muriale said. “My grandparents were involved and my brother was involved, as were numerous cousins, aunts, uncles and other family members. The hospitality business has always had a pull on me, and I’ve always gravitated to the hospitality side of things.”
