The History Project presents ‘Aracoma & Boling Baker -- Daughter of the Shawnee, Son of England

10/29/2022

Aracoma was the daughter of Shawnee Chief Cornstalk and she saved the life of Boling Baker, a deserter from the British army during The French & Indian War. They would marry and he was taken into the tribe just as she was put in possession of the Shawnee territory of western Virginia. Their story is of the kind of tragedy and heartbreak that affected the native peoples and those who tried to live in harmony with them while Great Britain’s quest for empire was forever changing North America.
