West Virginia University, Marshall research corporations awarded DOL funding for mine safety education

The research corporations of West Virginia University and Marshall University are each slated to receive part of a widespread federal funding effort for mine safety education and training.


The U.S. Department of Labor has awarded more than $1 million in grants through the Brookwood-Sago Mine Safety grant program to 13 entities throughout the country.

The goal of the funding is to support education and training to help identify, avoid and prevent unsafe working conditions in and around the nation’s mines.
The Marshall Research Corp. was awarded $130,000 to develop videos on powered haulage safety, fire safety emergency preparedness and personal protective equipment.
