West Virginia truckers gear up for new apprenticeship that would benefit young drivers

Truckers 18-20 years old are not allowed to cross state lines in the U.S., but a new federal apprenticeship program is changing that, allowing 3,000 from that age group a chance to drive interstate.

This new opportunity has West Virginia Trucking Association President Traci Nelson hopeful.

"We're super excited to get these young people excited about trucking,” Nelson said. “From 18-21 we've lost these young drivers over the years, but now I think it's exciting to build that excitement and let them know there's high-paying jobs in the trucking industry. They are high-paying, good benefit jobs."
